I have over 25 years working in the field of psychology. I believe that the key to most emotional and psychological problems lies in our formative attachments and any experience of trauma , those in the past and in the present. I am convinced learned conscious and unconscious behavior patterns can cause difficulties in life, and these behavior problems can be changed or modified. My approach is eclectic, and I use various modalities within a psychodynamic framework. I am also trained as a trauma specialist and EMDR therapist. I believe trauma can keep people stuck in behaviors and emotional dysfunction. EMDR is a highly effective way of reprocessing "stuck" trauma. I believe reprocessing and releasing past trauma is crucial for growth, wellbeing, and freedom from dysfunctional patterns of thinking and behavior.
- Farida Anwar, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist
My focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. We can work toward achieving this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan.
Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counseling and treatment, my aim is to help you recover motivation, perspective and move toward your own personal goals in life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. I aim to help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing. Psychology is therapeutic.
Relationship counseling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. Therapy sessions are held with both couples and is a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationship.
I have spent many years in the forensic setting and private practice, working with adults (18 to 65), geriatric populations (65 to 98), and adolescents (15 to 17). My fundamental belief is that people can change and my fundamental goal is to help persons work towards their full potential, being mindful of the fact that we are physical, spiritual, psychological, and emotional beings.
Recently, I have moved to Georgia and am delighted with all this State has to offer. While in California I developed a busy private practice and worked with a wide range of individuals of all ages and occupations. However, somehow, having a practice in Pasadena, California, I seemed to have attracted many persons in the music industry. I have felt privileged to help them as they struggled with multiple issues related to self-esteem, creative blocks, industry pressures, and multiple other challenges within the music industry.
Part of my treatment mode is to help clients develop inner resources and resiliency by identifying personal strengths and resources, practicing guided meditation, mindfulness, and reprocessing past trauma. EMDR is an important tool. I am passionate about helping clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves, building resiliency, and reaching their full potential.
Everyone has a story to tell and I look forward to hearing your story.
MY PERSONAL JOURNEY
Trusting someone with your story is a what I believe is a sacred journey and it is important to trust the person you tell your story to. In order to gain your trust I feel it is important to share a little bit about myself without crossing boundaries or muddying the waters.
I was born in India to multi-cultural parents. We moved to London when I was 1 1/2 years old and for the next 28 + years England was my beloved home and still holds a very important place in my heart and life. For family reasons I emigrated to California, USA at age of 29 and began my advanced education towards becoming a psychologist. For me this was both a spiritual journey as well as an academic one. From a young age I believed we all have a purpose in life and a sacred journey to travel, and helping myself and others embrace their journey has become a passion of mine.
Another passion of mine is traveling and experiencing other cultures. We live in an amazing world and I always feel that entering another culture and glimpsing into their world view can only enrich our own experience and instill us with awe and respect. Being part of 3 different cultures (Indian, English, and American) has enriched my life and traveling has humbled me in the presence of history of our globe. I hope I can communicate my respect to all my clients whatever their cultural experience may be. Again, I look forward to hearing your story and being a channel for grace in your personal journey.
